This is natural clear quartz enhanced by heat treatment and rapid cooling to create its characteristic internal crackle pattern. The fractures are treatment-created, not an untreated natural growth feature; the underlying mineral remains quartz, or silicon dioxide. Internal fracture surfaces reflect and scatter light, producing sparkle and occasional rainbow flashes that vary with the lighting and angle. Quartz has a Mohs hardness of approximately 7, but surface hardness does not prevent a fractured specimen from chipping or breaking.
