Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral that forms in basalt and other volcanic rocks, often alongside zeolites and Apophyllite. It was the first mineral to be named after a person — Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch mineralogist who brought specimens from South Africa to Europe in the 18th century. It is found in South Africa, Australia, China, and Morocco. Prehnite is sometimes called “Cape Jade” due to its jade-like appearance.
